Ingredients
Serves 5
1 Large sheet of puff pastry [store bought]
½ Cup of flour for dusting the surface
5 Fully cooked sausages, such as chicken or pork sausages [leave whole]
1 Egg [whisked]
2 Tablespoons of poppy seeds
1 Tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds
5 Long scallions [trim the ends off]
Salt for sprinkling [optional]
Preparation
Heat your oven to 395°F. Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry sheet into a 13-inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into 3-inch strips making 5 strips.
Place one long scallion next to one sausage [see picture] repeat this step until all four are done. Place one of sausage-scallion combo on the long edge of each pastry rectangle. Then carefully roll up the pastry around the sausage-scallion combo and press the seams and pinch the edges to seal.
Place the sausage rolls, seam side down, onto a baking sheet and brush the tops of the pastry with the whisked egg mixture, this will help the color turn golden brown when baking. Lastly, sprinkle the tops with the poppy seeds, salt and toasted sesame seeds before placing them into the oven.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and the sausage is cooked through. Remove the pastries from the baking sheet and let them cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Before serving slide the scallions out of the pastries and discard, this was only used for some added flavor. Serve these with your favorite condiment such as honey-mustard, relish, whole grain mustard and even sauerkraut.
Enjoy!
