WALNUT PESTO PASTA RECIPE




This walnut pesto is the perfect nutty, cheesy and delicious addition to any pasta, protein, veggie, sandwich spread or even pizza. This sauce is so versatile and quick to make! It only takes six basic ingredients and six minutes to make this deliciousness. Enjoy!



INGREDIENTS


½ CUP OF WALNUTS

¾ CUP PECORINO ROMANO OR GRANA PADANO CHEESE

3 WHOLE LARGE GARLIC CLOVES

2 ½ CUPS OF BASIL

¾ CUP OLIVE OIL

¼ TEASPOON OF RED PEPPER FLAKES

1 TEASPOON OF SALT



Combine the raw walnuts, cheese, garlic, red pepper flakes, salt and add in half of the amount of the olive oil into the food processor, blender or nutri-bullet and blend until very finely minced.

Once minced open the top of the blender or processor and add in your fresh basil and the remainder of the olive oil. Blend this for a couple of seconds we want the sauce to be a bit chunky. If you want it to be smoother then just add a bit more of olive oil and blend again.


PESTO PASTA TIPS

- When making the pasta cook according to package. Once cooked drain the pasta and transfer the noodles into a bowl and add in your walnut pesto. Toss to coat the pasta.

DO NOT TOSS THE WALNUT PESTO ONTO THE HOT STOVETOP OR HOT PAN, THIS WILL TURN THE SAUCE BROWN AND A BIT BITTER.

- Pair this with the pasta of your choice.

- Drizzle the top of your chicken, turkey or protein of choice with the sauce.

- Perfect for any sandwich spread.

- Dollop a bit of this sauce onto your soup of choice to add another layer of flavor.

- Tasty addition to any flatbread or pizza topper.

NOTE – Keep your pesto in the fridge, do not heat the pesto. Heat the pasta separately or pairing of choice on the side and place the dollop or drizzle of pesto on the top and mix or eat.
