Ingredients

1 Large sheet of puff pastry [store bought]

½ Cup of flour for dusting the surface

5 Fully cooked sausages, such as chicken or pork sausages [leave whole]

1 Egg [whisked]

2 Tablespoons of poppy seeds

1 Tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds

5 Long scallions [trim the ends off, optional]

Salt for sprinkling [maldon or coarse salt, optional]

Preparation

Heat your oven to 395°F. Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry sheet into a 13-inch rectangle.  Cut lengthwise into 3-inch strips making 5 strips. Place one whole sausage and one long scallion into each pastry strip, repeat until all the strips are done [picture available on social media]. Roll up the pastry around the sausage like a cigar and press the seams and pinch the edges to seal. Place the sausage rolls, seam side down, onto a baking sheet and brush the tops of the pastry with the whisked egg mixture, this will help the color turn golden brown when baking. Lastly, sprinkle the tops with the poppy seeds, salt and toasted sesame seeds before placing them into the oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and the sausage is cooked through.  Remove the pastries from the baking sheet and let them cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Before serving slide the scallions out of the pastries and discard, this was only used for some added flavor. Serve these with your favorite condiment such as honey-mustard, relish, whole grain mustard and even sauerkraut. Enjoy!

Note - These sausage rolls are perfect for any lunch, dinner or game time meal! These crisp pastry bites filled with sausage are a mix of spice, crispiness and buttery puff pastry goodness. Enjoy these sausage rolls with a side salad or even a soup and pair it with your favorite white wine or rose.
